Polly Track

Privacy

Your rides stay on your phone.

Polly Track has no accounts, no ads, no analytics or tracking tools, and collects no personal data.

Last updated: 22 October 2026 · applies to the Polly Track app (Android and iOS) and to the pollytrack.com website. The Italian version prevails in case of doubt.

Who is responsible

Polly Track is developed by Salvatore Alessandro Russo, who is the controller for everything described here. Any questions: supporto@pollytrack.com.

In short

Data that stays on your phone

This data is created and used only on your device, in the app's storage. We do not receive it.

DataWhat forWhen
Location (GPS)Showing you on the map, suggesting your region, starting from where you are, navigating, rerouting, warning about closed tracks, recording your ride. While you use the app; in the background only during a navigation or recording you started (on Android with a notification always visible).
Motion sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope)Estimating lean, braking and acceleration; if you turn it on, recognising a possible crash.Only while you record a ride or navigate. Crash detection is off by default.
Tracks, recorded rides and telemetry"My tracks", ride report, recovery after an interruption.Until you delete them.
GPX/KML files you openImporting and following a track.Only when you share them with Polly.
Settings and preferencesRemembering your choices (surface, voice, theme, language…).Always, on the phone.
SOS contacts and messagePreparing the emergency text message.Up to 3 contacts you type in yourself (Polly does not read your address book); they stay on the phone until you delete them.
Photos of placesShowing a photo of castles, villages and viewpoints with author and licence. They come with the region's map pack (free photos from Wikimedia Commons): viewing them sends no requests.
Weather cacheShowing the last forecast without a connection, including how long ago it was updated. When weather is enabled; it stays in the app's storage.

You can delete it by removing tracks in the app or uninstalling it. If you turn on phone backups (iCloud or Google), the system may include app data according to its own settings: that is an Apple or Google service, not ours.

A track is exported (GPX or CSV) only when you choose to, to the app or person you pick.

What goes over the network

Catalogue and maps

When you open the app with a connection, Polly downloads the list of regions; when you pick a region, it downloads that map package. Both come from mappe.pollytrack.com, a file store on Cloudflare (R2 and content delivery network). Downloads continue in the background through the system's services (Android WorkManager, iOS URLSession).

These requests contain only what any web request contains: IP address, the file requested and technical connection data. We send no location, no identifier and no usage data. Cloudflare may keep technical logs for security and operation (see Cloudflare's privacy policy); we do not use them to identify or profile you.

Weather along the route

If “Weather along the route” is enabled in Settings, after routing Polly contacts MET Norway directly for a few points along the route: 2 to 8, including the start and the finish. For each point it sends only the area: latitude and longitude rounded to 2 decimals (about 1 km: nearby points on the route become a single request); it does not send the full track, place names, times, your name, an account or a device identifier. The request carries the app's name and version with the support email address, as MET Norway requires. Turning the option off prevents all weather requests.

As with any direct web connection, MET Norway also receives the IP address and technical connection data. Its terms state that IP addresses and any requested coordinates are recorded in api.met.no logs held in MET's Oslo data centre. See MET Norway's privacy policy. Polly stores the response and update time on your phone, honours the service expiry time and reuses the cache when offline.

SOS by SMS and crash detection

When you tap "SOS", Polly writes a text with your position (coordinates, accuracy and time), your heading, up to six points of your recent track and, if you are recording, the ride's name and distance. After 5 seconds, unless you cancel, it opens the phone's messaging app with the contacts and text ready: you press Send. When the phone allows it, it also offers the recent track as a GPX attachment. The message goes through your mobile operator like any text; nothing reaches us. Polly has no permission to send texts on its own and does not call emergency services: "Call 112" only opens the dialler with the number.

Crash detection is a trial feature and is off by default. If you turn it on in Settings › Safety, it uses the phone's sensors only during navigation or recording. After a possible crash an alarm sounds; if you do not tap "I'M OK" within 60 seconds, the SOS described above opens, and you still send it yourself.

Links you open

In "View the road" you can open Google Street View, Mapillary or OpenStreetMap, and from a place's photo its Wikimedia Commons page: the link contains the coordinates of the point or the road's ID and opens in your browser or the relevant app, under their privacy rules. Nothing opens without your tap.

Optional tips

"A coffee", "A beer" and "A sandwich" are in-app purchases handled by the App Store or Google Play. You pay with your Apple or Google account; we only receive the sales reports the stores provide to developers, without your payment details. Tips unlock no features and the app stores nothing after the purchase.

Android Auto and Apple Watch

If you connect your phone to the car with Android Auto or use the Apple Watch app, the phone sends the car or watch only the navigation or recording status (manoeuvre, distances, times, altitude) through Google's and Apple's services between your own devices. We receive nothing.

Tips from the website through PayPal

On the "Buy me a coffee" page the cards open PayPal (paypal.me). Payment happens on PayPal, under its terms and its privacy statement. From PayPal we receive the amount and the details PayPal shows to the recipient of a payment (usually the payer's name and email); we use them only for bookkeeping and nothing else.

Notifications

Notifications (download progress, navigation and recording in progress, alerts) are created on the phone. We do not use server push notifications.

Permissions

You can deny or revoke them in your phone's settings: the features that depend on them stop working, the rest does not.

This website

pollytrack.com is a static site: no cookies, no analytics, no third-party fonts or scripts. It is served by Cloudflare, which processes technical request data (such as the IP address) to deliver and protect the pages.

Children

The app is not aimed at children under 14 and collects no data from anyone.

Your rights

Since we keep no personal data from the app, there is usually nothing for us to show, correct or delete: everything is on your phone and under your control. For any request under the GDPR (Regulation (EU) 2016/679: access, rectification, erasure, objection) write to supporto@pollytrack.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it), or your local authority.

Changes

If the app changes in a way that affects data (for example with future online features such as track sharing), we will update this page before releasing that version and say so in the release notes.
