Polly Track

Weather along the route

Before you leave you see where it will rain on the route and at what time you will be there. The forecasts are for points along the ride, at the time you get there.

What it does

After routing, Polly asks for the forecast at 2 to 8 points of the route, start and finish included. For each one it takes the time you will be there: rain, temperature, wind and thunderstorms.

Route summary to Varese Ligure: the rainy stretch is dashed on the elevation profile with a cloud, and below the line "Light rain from km 40 to 64, around 10:44, 12 °C" and "Weather data: MET Norway".
Rain on the profile, and one line that sums it up.
Three routes to Varese Ligure with time, distance, dirt km and climb, before opening the summary with the weather.
The forecast is for the route you pick.
  • On the elevation profile in the summary you see where rain or thunderstorms are expected.
  • One line sums up the stretches, for example "Light rain from km 40 to 64, around 10:44 · 12 °C", with the age of the forecast.
  • On dirt it estimates mud risk from forecast rain and, when the phone knows it, rain from the last hours. It is an estimate, not an observation.

When it helps

When you need to decide what time to leave, or whether to ride that dirt track today or tomorrow. A dry mule track and the same track after a storm are two different rides.

How to use it

Settings › Default route › "Weather along the route". It is on by default.

  1. Plan a route and open it.
  2. Look at the elevation profile: rainy stretches are marked.
  3. Read the line below: where it rains, when, the temperature and how old the forecast is.
  4. If you do not want it, switch it off with the same toggle in Settings.

Good to know

  • It is the only riding feature that uses the network. With no signal you see the last forecast downloaded and its age; if there is none, the box does not appear. The route is still calculated offline.
  • Polly sends only the area, with coordinates rounded to about 1 km. When it is off, nothing is sent. Details in the privacy policy.
  • The weather does not change the route. You read it and you decide.
  • Data from MET Norway, NLOD and CC BY 4.0 licences.
